The state government has continued its election funding blitz in Collie, with a marijuana facility the latest recipient of funds.
The Collie future industries fund has awarded $2 million to Cannaponics Limited, who are planning on developing a medical cannabis farm near the town.
Retiring local state MP Mick Murray believes the project will provide jobs in an expanding industry.
“I’m pleased to see Collie diversifying its industries to ensure a dynamic economy for years to come,” he said.
The news is not a surprise to Cannaponics, who in investor information published in November claimed the award of a $2 million grant from the fund to be a “future milestone”.
The company already owns a 64 hectare site just south of Stockton Lake.
It is believed the site will produce about 10,000 kilograms of dried marijuana products every year once operational.
It is the latest spending announcement from the fund, which late last month contributed more than $600,000 towards the expansion of Collie Ridge Motel.
WA goes to the polls on March 13.
